The Celtics have ripped off 5 wins in a row and can tie the 76ers for first place in the Atlantic if they can come up with one more. Going into the year this wouldn't have been shocking news, as the Celtics have won the Atlantic division crown every year that KG/Allen have been on the team, but it was just a week ago when we weren't sure the Celtics would even be in the playoffs. Now, they could put themselves into #4 seed in the East. What the difference between being the 4 seed and being a 7-8 seed? Well, you get the first round on your home court, and you don't have to play the Bulls or the Heat in the first round.
Don't kid yourself though, this will not be an easy task. The 76ers like to run, and the Celtics had to play last night, and that game went to overtime (and so did the game before that). I worry if the Celtics are going to have the legs to keep up with this young team tonight.
There are a lot of reasons to be hopeful tough. The 76ers are just 2-8 in their last 10 games, and the Celtics have taken 13 of 16 matchups since Garnett/Allen joined the club. Plus, Pierce and Garnett have been playing like they found the fountain of youth or something.
The keys for a Celtics win are Pierce to keep up his scoring, as he has been above 30 points in each of the last two games. I am not saying he has to score 30, but he can't have one of those nights where he goes 4-16 or something. Rondo needs to be more productive then he was last game, and get the Celtics offense going. The biggest key to me is Garnett dominating the middle. Hawes is out, so I would be disappointed if KG did have a stat line somewhere around 20 points and 12 boards.
Celtics are playing with a lot of pride. There is a big part of me that doesn't think they will have enough legs, but there is still one big difference between the Celtics and the 76ers and that is the Celtics are able to win close games. he 76ers' last four defeats have been by a combined 19 points, so expect a very close game tonight.
