The Mega Millions jackpot is now the largest in U.S. lottery history, as it is now up to $500 million. Kind of crazy that someone on Friday as the chance to be a 1/2 billion dollars richer.
If you win, you have two options. Straight cash, or yearly payouts. A winner could get $19.2 million a year for 26 years or a single payment worth $359 million.
So what are your chances of winning? 1 in 179,000,000. Basically the same chance of being attacked by a polar bear and a lion in the same day (Enter Dumber and Dumber quote: "So your saying there's a chance"). Still, for a buck why not try.
The real question is what would you do with a 1/2 billion dollars?
***UPDATE***
Mega Millions jackpot increases to $540 million, largest jackpot in world history, lottery officials say.
Since most people buy the day of the drawing (Friday 11pm) the jackpot is likely to break $600 million
