The Jays are looking to make a deal before the start of the MLB season to bring in some starting pitching. Right now, there are two guys on their radar Joe Blanton and Gavin Floyd.
The Phillies are willing to eat $2 million of Blanton's deal, and he would probably not cost much in terms of prospects to get. Floyd on the other hand would probably be more expensive.
Right now, the Jays have Dustin McGowan and Rick VandenHurk available for the No. 5 spot, which isn't that great of a choice, although McGowan has looked good so far in spring training (take from that what you will). The Jays know they need to get a deeper rotation if they are going to compete with teams like the Rays, Yankees, and Red Sox.
I expect them to get something done in the next week or so.
