Hines Ward Retires

In another classy move from a player on the classiest organization in the NFL retired yesterday. Hines Ward said that he would rather retire then wear another jersey. He was a leader and a 14 year Steeler.

I love Hines Ward and what he brought to the game. Hines Ward is probably known more for his blocking than his Hall of Fame stats. Hines overall stats are really good for a team that was known more for running the ball than airing it out. He had 1000 receptions, 12,083 yards, 85 TDs. His stats may not be WOW factor, but he did something else no other WR has ever done ever, blocking. And I feel like that should put him over the top of any doubters.

Ward holds every significant franchise receiving record, including receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. His 1,000 career catches rank eighth all-time and he is one of two players with at least 1,000 receptions and two Super Bowl rings.

So the Hall of Fame discussion gets involved now. When he files, it will be 5 years until he can get in the Hall. Cris Carter, Tim Brown, Andre Reed, Marvin Harrison, Terrell Owens, Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce and Randy Moss will all be there too. But Hines Ward reputation on the field and with the media will get a lot of love and will be the reason why he will skip some of those players mentioned above. The committee for some reason hurts people for how they acted is a pro ala Cris Carter.
