Redskins Could Have A Very Interesting Offense

The Redskins already made a trade that was going to dramatically change their offense when they traded three first-round draft choices and a second-round pick for the Rams’ first-round selection, which will turn out to be Robert Griffin III. Now, they are trying to get him some weapons to play with. The Redskins agreed to terms with wide receivers Pierre Garcon, Josh Morgan, and working on finishing a deal with Eddie Royal.

Pierre Garcon got a five-year deal from the Redskins worth $42 million ($21.5 million guaranteed), which is an overpayment, but this is a guy who 70 catches for 947 yards and six touchdowns last season, without anyone throwing him the ball. I want to shit on this deal, because he isn't worth that, but it could end up being a decent deal if he turns out to be much better when he is the #1 target and has a competent QB throwing him the ball.

The Morgan signing is a little more puzzling. Morgan got a two-year deal worth more than $6 million per year. This is a guy who missed all but 5 games last year and has never had over 700 yards receiving. He was a hell of a WR at VT, and he is coming home, as he is from Washington, but this seemed like a gross overpayment.

The Royal deal isn't done yet, so we really don't know what he will be getting. I know you all are wondering how the Redskins are able to sign anyone after the NFL hit them with a $32 million cap hit for front loading contracts during a noncap year, but from what I read they can push $16 million of that to next year.

So if the Royal deal go through the Redskins could have an offense of RG III at QB, Santana Moss, Pierre Garcon, Jabar Gaffney, Josh Morgan, Eddie Royal, with Roy Helu at RB. Baring a trade (which could be likely) that is a very deep WR core, with an RB that can also catch the ball. If there was a perfect offense for RG III this could be it, as they will be able to spread it out and give him a ton of options.

I don't like the money they spent, and I don't know what the fallout of that will be, but right now this will be a very interesting offense to watch next year.
