Celtics Tried To Trade Allen To Pacers

At the end of Jackie MacMullan’s excellent piece on the end of The Big Three, she quotes Pacers president Larry Bird regarding Danny Ainge’s asking price for Ray Allen.

“Here’s the thing,” Bird said. “When Danny and I talked about trading for Ray, he wanted Tyler Hansbrough and a first-round pick. If that’s the value he’s putting on Ray Allen, he ain’t getting it. That tells me he’s in no hurry to trade him.”

I guess it makes sense to get as many picks as possible for next year, as for Hansbrough he is nothing more than a bench player. He was decent last year when he averaged 11 points and 5 boards, but this year he is back to the bench and shooting under 50%. He could be a nice option off the bench, but certainly doesn't solve anything. Doesn't really matter since Bird shot it down, but it gives you an idea of what the Celtics are looking for, which makes sense considering how everyone thinks this is the deepest draft in a long time.
