FINALLY!
Since Bob and I went to URI, and since we are the center of the world, Jim Baron getting fired is relevant.
Jim Baron has been the bane of my existence since my sophomore year in college.
Baron's teams set a school record with 109 victories form 2006-2011. He compiled a 184-166 overall record at Rhode Island. He had six 20-win seasons at URI, but also is the first Rhody coach ever to lose 20 games in three different seasons. His teams went 11 years without qualifying for the NCAA Tournament, the longest such stretch in school history.
This year's team finished 7-24 and did not qualify for the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
Baron was a shitty coach that could somehow win 20 games, but never compile up quality wins to make the tournament or he would go and have our team to lose to St. Bonnies or some shit school. There was 1 year, where you could have made an argument that URI should have made the tourney and that was 2003-2004. But since then, they have been under whelming and giant disappointments. He played games not to lose, rather than to win.
The early rumors have been former Coach Al Skinner and Dan Hurley.
I would love Al to come back, he proved at Boston College he can lead a program and his ties with URI will help with fans and recruitment. But who knows, who cares. Baron is gone.
