Breathe easy Patriots fans, Wes Welker will be in Foxboro next season. Wes Welker is expected to be hit with the franchise tag sometime before the Monday afternoon deadline (approximately $9.4 million). This doesn't mean the Patriots and Welker will not work some kind of long term deal out, it just means he won't be able to talk to other teams.
This really shouldn't be surprising, actually the only part of this story that surprised me was it took the Patriots this long to give him the tag. Welker is 30 years old, so if I was them I wouldn't want to lock him down to anything more than a 3 year deal. It will be very interesting to see how much it'll take for the Patriots to lock him up.
