The Bruins have signed Marty Turco to replace Rask, after Rask went down with a "with a lower abdomen strain/groin strain". He is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, which is the rest of the regular season.
The reason I put his injury in quotations is because I have a feel there is more to it then they are letting on. He really seemed like he hurt his knee, which would be the same knee he had surgery in the offseason. Don't be surprised if you hear he has surgery again on that knee in the offseason.
I like Turco a lot, but it is not 100% the Bruins will get him. He has to pass through waivers, and if someone wants to piss off the Bruins they can claim him. There is already a rumor Ottawa could be that team. If he isn't claim, this could be a very nice pickup. Last year Turco went 11-11-3 with a 3.02 goals-against average and .897 save percentage. In his 10-year NHL career, Turco has a 2.35 GAA and .910 save percentage. Turco most recently played for EC Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian elite league, so at least he isn't coming in cold.
The Bruins are going to need Turco to problably 7-8 of the last 18 games. The Bruins are at the point they need to get Thomas some time off. Seeding is not nearly as important as having Thomas rested.
