Joey Votto/ Matt Cain Get Stupid Deals

First baseman Joey Votto and the Cincinnati Reds agreed Monday on the framework to a 10-year, $225 million extension, a source told ESPN.com.

Cain's contract is for six years (2012-17) and $127.5 million with a vesting player option for 2018 that can bring the total to $141 million over seven years, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. It also includes a full no-trade clause.

Am I the only one that is getting outraged by how much contracts are going for now a days. Joey Votto and Matt Cain are real good, but those contracts are ridiculous. In Today's MLB you can't have a semi good player without giving him a 100 million dollar contract. It's ridiculous.

Bob has the idea of a high/low salary cap and I agree with that, but I think they need to even go more in depth and limit contracts. My idea would have it so no player can get signed longer than 6 years and the highest a player can get paid over the contract is 15 per year. Because these contracts are just getting more and more out of control and I'm sure that the Tigers/Angels are stoked to have Fielder/ Pujols, but lets see how happy they are in yea 7,8,9,10.

I shutter to think what Jacoby Ellsbury's contract is going to be if he has another year like he did last year. It probably has to start at 10 for 220 and that is absolutely crazy. I'm all for players getting theirs, but all these deals seem very excessive.
