When Greg Oden was in the draft, I really wanted him in Celtic green. He was going to be the next coming of Bill Russell but hat scores more. I was so happy we had a chance for him, then our ping pong balls went to 5 and Oden and fall back plan Kevin Durant were out of our reach. Luckily that sparked us getting the big 3 and the rest is history.
Greg Oden will go down as the newer Sam Bowie. If you know the 1984 draft you'll remember Hakeem Olajuwan went 1, then Portland figuring they had a star in Clyde Drexler took Sam Bowie and MJ fell to Chicago. Sam Bowie was a huge bust for Portland averaged 10 points and 7 rebounds and was a complete bust.
Fast forward to now, Portland took Oden (despite injury concerns) for Kevin Durant. Durant has turned into a Hall of Fame talent, meanwhile Greg Oden has managed to only play 82 games since his 2007 draft. With getting micro fracture Oden is done for the year and will be a free agent next season. I don't know how anyone can risk anything but the veteran minimum for him.
