Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk has agreed to a three-year contract extension. The deal is worth an annual average value of $3.36 million.
Let me start by saying I like Boychuk a lot. He is tough, and has the 4th highest +/- on the team. Still, the Bruins really overpaid here in my opinion. Boychuk is replacable, and I don't see anyother team throwing around this kind of money for a middle of the road defenseman. Maybe I am wrong, because I don't have the best handle on what NHL players are worth, but the fact is he is 28 years old and is just now starting to be a full time player. He has (in my opinion) peaked, and is the best he is going to be, and now you're going to pay him 3.36 million/year? Seems high to me.
