Tonight is the 2nd of a back to back game in Boston, so it will be good to finally be home. The Celtics normally struggle in back to backs, but since we are just leaving the all star break I can't see that as an excuse. Since a couple years ago, the Bucks have been a team of disappointment. Brandon Jennings hasn't brought his game to the next level, Andrew Bogut is always hurt and Stephen Jackson doesn't want to be there.

Opening a 4 game home series with a win is huge and getting to .500 again is also huge. The struggled with turnovers last night, but I see some of the All Star rust to come off, especially with Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo. Although Rondo had 11 assists last night he had 0 points, and 5 turnovers, he has to do better than that going forward. Pierce also needs to start making smarter decisions and being the player he can be.

Without Bogut or any inside force I see KG, Wilcox, and bass having a field day on the boards and on the offensive end.

Mayweather on Pacquiao: "He's not getting 50-50 split"

"Just by speaking to Pacquiao on the phone, I mean, he's not one of the sharpest knives in the drawer," Mayweather said. "He faces Floyd Mayweather, he's not getting 50-50. Not at all. No one is getting 50-50."

Ugh, who the hell knows anymore. I guess this fight is never going to happen. Boxing really needs to step back and fix everything. Maybe make it some kind of league, where people decide who fights who, and you have to win certain fights to make it into higher level. I don't know how they go about that, but something need to change. There is no reason why this fight isn't happening other then greed, which is a shame. A 50-50 split sounds fair, since both these guys are popular. I wouldn't say one is more popular than the other, so both are brining in the viewers. Whatever, the case it's just a shame. The sport needs this fight, but instead it looks like it is facing what it's been facing since Tyson started falling apart... A slow death.

MMA must be pumped.

Confirmed: Bill Murray Wants Nothing To Do With Ghostbusters 3

"I honestly don't know. At this point it's in suspended animation," he said when asked about the film's status. "The studio, the director Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie. He doesn't want to be involved. He's got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He's into this life and living it. I know we'd have a lot of fun [but] I can't be mad at him. He’s a friend first, a colleague second. We have a deep personal relationship that transcends business and he doesn’t want to know."

Aykroyd previously said that one possibility would be to recast Murray's role, but he adds that they are "not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise. The script has to be perfect. I'm the cheerleader, but I'm only one voice in the matter. It's a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie, however there is still interest from the studio (ComingSoon.Net)."

No Bill Murray, no Ghostbusters 3, that's my opinion. Could they still do it? Yea, I guess there is always a way. They could open the movie at Peter Venkman's funeral or something like that, but it's probably not worth it.

I get Bill Murray's stance. Maybe he is done with it, maybe he is fearful of a "Crystal Skull" incident, maybe the writing sucks. Whatever the case, he probably has a point. SAYING THAT, this is the same guy who did Garfield, and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, so he isn't beyond just cashing a check (not to mention Charlie's Angels).

I get it, I really do, and maybe he is doing us all a favor, but I can't help but be a little dissapointed.

Odom Wants Buyout To Come To Celtics?

"After speaking with a league executive Tuesday night, Hoops Authority has learned that Odom is seeking a buyout from the Mavericks, with his focus set on taking his talents to the Boston Celtics or New Jersey Nets (Hoops Authority).

I don't believe this for a second. Cuban has said that there has been no discussions for a buyout. His father is sick and that's really why he isn't around, but fuck it lets have some fun with this.

Odom is having a terrible year. Whether it's because his head isn't in the "game", he's out of shape, or he just doesn't fit into the Mavs system, I dont know. Still, the Celtics are in such a need for a big man that you'd have to take a chance on Odom. I think we all know there is little chance Jermaine is going to be able to finish the year. His wrist is a mess, and he can't stay on the floor regardless. If he came to the Celtics is would certainly make the bench a lot better, and you could decide between him, Bass, or Wilcox starting.

The question is why would Lamar want to come here? Maybe he is so mad at the Lakers that going to their eternal rivals would be his way of pissing them off. If he was really willing to take it this far, then you would have to think he is motivated, which is one of the big questions about him.

Saying that, this isn't going to happen. There is little reason for the Mavs to do it, and on top of it if Odom wanted "revenge" staying with the Mavericks certainly gives him better odds of playing the Lakers. It's fun to dream though.

Patriots Ask Ochocinco To Restructure Deal

The Pats have asked Ochocinco to restructure his contract. That's better than simply releasing him, but so far it's unclear how much of a pay cut they're asking him to take. I said it earlier that for some reason I think Ochocinco is going to be coming back. He sounded like he wanted to, and said that the "first year of marriage is always rough". I think that's a stupid comment, as that's usually the honeymoon faze, but I get what he's saying.

I don't know if he can turn it around, but if they get him to take less money, and bring him back cheap, I have no problem with it. He wasn't a headache, and if Brady/Belichick think they have a reason for him I'm fine with it.

Who's Looking Better

Michael Sweetney

or
Jared Lorenzen

Former Hoya/ Knick/ Bull/Celtics training camp C Michael Sweetney or Former Kentucky/ New York Giant hefty lefty Jared Lorenzen.

Both of these guys hold a special place in my heart, Sweetney was a beast in college and not this fat and I remember when the Knicks drafted him, I thought great things would happen. I mean hell it made sence to me, the last time the Knicks drafted a center out of Georgetown it worked out pretty well. But he only made it 4 years and ate himself out of the league. He seems to be a mainstay on the Celtics training camp every year and when I hear his name, I hope he makes it. He's playing in a Puerto Rican league now getting paid in empanadas.

Jared Lorenzen is working on the Northern Kentucky River Monsters as not only GM, but QB of the team in which he won the MVP of. J Load was awesome at Kentucky and was always a hard out for anyteam that played the Wildcats that year. He was on the team that got beat by the Bluegrass Miracle to LSU and Devery Henderson.

So here's the question, who's looking better.

It's tough because I like both of them, but I'm giving my nod to Sweetney due to him looking like the Nutty Professor.

Good For John Calipari

The best college basketball coach is trying to do what great college basketball coaches should do, look out for the well being of their players.

In this addition of John Calipari being awesome, Michael Kidd Gilchrist is trying to convince coach Cal why he should stay IN school.

"He has to come up with reasons why he's coming back to convince me," Calipari said Monday on a Southeastern Conference coaches' teleconference. "Here's why: What if he gets hurt, and I'm out there convincing him to come back?"

Calipari may be drug through the mud because he runs a program full of one and done, but with the rules and the level of talent he has, he should. We have seen plenty of players that have hurt their stock in the draft even this year (I'm looking at you Jared Sullinger, Perry Jones III, Harrison Barnes and Terrence Jones). If they were to go in the draft last year, they would have been top 6 or 7 players, however now, with all the talent out there someone could easily fall to 15.

Michael Kidd Gilchrist has nothing left to prove at Kentucky, and if it weren't for his teammate Anthony Davis, he would be the front runner for Player of the Year. Kidd Gilchrist has superstar written all over him and I haven't seen a small forward this dominant in college since...... Kevin Durant.

So good for you Coach Cal and actually caring for your kids future's rather than just the well being of your program.

How Do you not Get Furious About This!

Seriously Fuck this guy

86 Celtics, 83 Cavaliers

It was a close game and a game that could easily have been lost, but Ray, KG and a giant 3 by Paul Pierce saved us yesterday at the Q.

It was a really sloppy game to start, which you could expect after the All Star break the Celtics had 17 turnovers, led by Pierce 6.

KG called out the team during the All Star break and backed it up with the level of energy he played with last night. He had 18 points and 8 rebounds and Ray Allen had 22 points with knocking down 4 threes. I like Brandon Bass in the starting line up (he had 12 points) but I am afraid that he's more important on the bench for scoring purposes.

Speaking of the bench I was impressed by Avery during a stretch of play and Chris Wilcox's rebounding. However, Keyon Dooling has been a major bust this year, I expected him to at least score more, but he is an automatic miss pretty much.

We really need a tall guy.

KG passed Charles Barkley for 18th all time.

And Tommy Heinshon has declared Kyrie Irving all Hall of Famer last night.

Senators 1, Bruins 0

The Bruins haven't been able to win back-to-back games since January 12th. That trend was extended last night in a 1-0 loss to Ottawa that probably should have been a 2-0 or 3-0 loss. The Bruins played the first 50 minutes before generating any sustained pressure, they struggled to maintain possession of the puck, and they seemed disjointed, as if this was their first time playing with each other.

It was as if the whole team were Deadline Day new arrivals.

I know there's injuries to key players. During this stretch we're really seeing how valuable Rich Peverley is. But the turnovers, the poor passes, David Krejci trying to carry the puck around opponents like he's in a Bobby Orr highlight video, it's all inexcusable.

It doesn't just hurt the defense, either. It kills the offense. The Bruins are struggling to score goals, which means they need as many opportunities as possible. A sniper only needs one shot to kill a guy, but a bad shooter needs a dozen. The B's turning the puck over at your offensive blue-line is like a bad shooter throwing bullets away.

Hopefully it's just a product of returning home from a long homestand. Then again, this win-lose-win-lose pattern has persisted for a month and a half now.

The playoffs are around the corner. And Ottawa is only a point behind, although the Bruins have 4 games in hand. Winning the division looks like it will be extra important this year as the 2nd place Northeast team might be the 5th or 6th seed in the playoffs. There are a number of Atlantic Division teams that could occupy the 4th, 5th, and maybe even the 6th spots.

The Bruins host one of those Atlantic Division teams on Thursday as the Devils come to town.

Celtics @ Cavs Preview

The Celtics have lost 5 straight, and 7 of their last 8 games. Yet, they do have a couple things going their way. Right before the break they got KG back, and now it sounds like Wilcox and Bass will be back in the lineup. Jermaine O'Neal won't be, but honestly fuck that guy. The Celtics also get Rondo back. So, if there was a time to turn this season around it's now.

This game is actually kind of important now. The Cavs are just a 1 1/2 behind the Celtics for the last playoff seed... Yes, it's been a tough year. Like I said though, the Celtics are healthy now, and my hope is Rondo comes back with a vengeance, and KG/Allen will be on top of their games with them getting the weekend off.

To me it's do or die for the Celtics. If they want to keep the "Big 4" together then they need to start making a run. That starts with beating teams you should beat. The Cavs are one of those teams.

I think Rondo can limit Irving, and with the Celtics finally be somewhat healthy they beat this team soundly.

Celtics win 93-84
Tommy Award: Rondo
Game starts at 7pm

Senators @ Bruins Preview (UPDATED)

As we have noted before the Bruins have not won two games in a row in over a month, but they have a good chance of doing so tonight, as they have owned the Senators this year. The Bruins are just 3 points up on Ottawa for first place in the Northeast Division, but are 4-0 against them this year.

I don't know yet if all the new Bruins players will be playing tonight. I would think it will take a couple games to get used to this system, but I also think that sometimes a trade like this can breathe into a team that could really use it. They have looked flat at times, and injuries have taken their toll.

I am hoping Thomas is in net tonight, because he has a 2.00 GAA and is 6-0 against the Senators.

Bruins win 3-2
Player of the Game: Marchand
Game starts at 7pm

***UPDATED***

Bruins coach Claude Julien said after Tuesday's morning skate that he expects additions Brian Rolston and Mike Mottau to be in the lineup when the B's take on the Senators Tuesday night. Greg Zanon just arrived in Boston and did not take part in the morning skate and will not play Tuesday.

Teams Looking To Trade For Ray Allen

I am actually surprised these reports didn't start up earlier, but there are now calls coming into the Celtics asking for Ray Allen. They are obviously coming in from contenders. It makes a lot of sense, since Allen is a perfect guy to fit into almost any team. Who doesn't need a guy who can stretch the floor like Allen can?

Ray Allen doesn't want to be traded. He wants to stay in Boston the rest of his career. His family is here, and he has said it time and again he wants to be here. If the Celtics can somehow pull off the miracle of Howard in the offseason then I want Allen back. Basically, if they somehow think they can be contenders this year, or next year, Allen should be on this team. He is old, but really hasn't lost much, and is in incredible shape. I think Allen has 2 more years after this year where he can be more then a serviceable player. I really don't want to see him go because he is my favorite of the Big 3, and one of my favorite players of all time.

That being said, if the Celtics are going to blow this whole thing up, and go really young then this is the time. They would need to get a first round pick for him, or at least some kind of young guy with potential. Allen's contract is only $10 million, and it's expiring, so it fits into a lot of teams.

It will be interesting to find out what teams are calling. Wouldn't the Bulls make a lot of sense? Korver, Brewer, and a first round pick for Allen? I don't know if I like that since both those guys have 1 more year on their deals after this year, and the Celtics might want to keep that $10 million open. Plus, I don't know if the Bulls would want to trade all that depth. That was just a random trade machine thing I was playing with.

Anyways, just something to keep an eye on. Hopefully the Celtics can get healthy can prove they can make some kind of run, so Allen can just stay, but the thought of having 3 first round picks this year in a deep draft could be interesting, especially if the Celtics really blew it up and became a lottery team.

Ways To Make The MLB Better

I like the MLB, I really do. It might actually be my favorite sport, yet I know why people don't like it. To be honest, their reasons make a ton of sense, but I also think there is a way to close the gap and make it a more popular sport and better sport.

1. Wild Card - I am with Selig, I think they need to expand the teams in the playoffs so that more teams are involved. I also like this 1 game playoff, because it makes winning the division just that much more important, while keeping more markets involved longer.

2. Salary Cap - Well, not just a salary cap. I do think there needs to be some kind of cap, so that teams don't just go crazy, but I think the tax has done a decent job. I would like a hard cap, but even more than that I think there need to be a payroll minimum for each team. If they can't afford to meet the minimum then they should either sell to team or it should be dissolved.

3. Pitch Timer - Purists will hate this, but there is no reason it should take more the 15 sec to throw a pitch. Beckett is used as an example of this all the time. He takes over 30 secs per pitch. There is no reason why games should take this as long as it does. Basically, I am in favor of a shot (pitch) clock.

4. Expanded Review - Trying to say whether a guy is safe or not is almost impossible. I want a booth setup that can look at a replay and call it. I don't want umpires to leave the field to go look, but a 3rd party to just call it from the booth. Everything should be reviewable except balls and strikes.

5. Shorter Spring Training - Find a way to cut down spring training. Almost everyone admits it's too long (players/fans). This will make the season end earlier, so that people aren't playing baseball during winter.

6. Decide on DH - I can see both arguments. "Purists" like the pitcher batting, and it brings more decisions for a manager. On the other side who wants to see a pitcher hit? I don't care which way, but having both is dumb.

7. All-Star Game - This nonsense of "now it counts" is dumb, and a team getting home field advantage, because of an exhibition game is silly. Cut that shit out.

I really think if these changes were made it would make the sport better. The games would move quicker, the season would be a couple weeks shorter, and more teams would be involved in the playoff race, which I don't think most people would argue against.

Rams Looking To Deal #2 Pick

In the next couple weeks DP and I will start our NFL Draft Preview, but before we get a chance there could be someone else picking at #2. There are reports going around today that the St. Louis Rams are looking to trade down from the #2 pick. It makes a lot of sense, since Robert Griffin III has shown that he should go #1 or #2 (most likely #2), and with the Rams already having Sam Bradford they should look to deal the pick.

If you want this pick though, it's going to be expensive. Reports suggest they are looking for a similar package to what the Chargers got for Eli Manning (two first-round picks a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick). That is a damn steep price, but this kid could be worth it.

The teams interested are the Dolphins, Redskins, and Browns. Since I actually like RG III, I really don't want to see him go to any of these teams. Redskins are just a black hole of talent. The Browns are always terrible, and I just can't stand the Dolphins. Plus, I actually think the Dolphins should give Matt Moore another year, I thought he played really well this year.

Another random report is that the Rams could trade the pick for Asante Samuel and DeSean Jackson. I am not sure why the Eagles would just give up on Vick and RG III, but if they are willing to do that the Rams should really consider it.

And More; Francona GO AWAY

The Pill Popper is back at it again, with his main goal as an analyst to start a smear campaign against our beloved Red Sox and our great new manager Bobby Valentine.

Our former coach that was unfit to manage the team recently said, "I think it's a PR move," Francona, now an ESPN analyst, said on ESPN Radio's "Mike and Mike in the Morning" show. "I think if a guy wants a beer, he can probably get one. You know, it's kind of the old rule ... If your coach in football says no hard liquor on the plane -- I mean, you serve beer and wine -- somebody's going to sneak liquor on the plane.

"If you furnish a little bit, it almost keeps it to a minimum."

Sorry Francona the inmates don't run the asylum like they did with you and your lack of managing style. Francona bitterness and jealousy towards Bobby Valentine is hysterical. Is this a P.R. move? No, Bobby Valentine has always banned alcohol in locker rooms for pretty much his whole career. So why don't you go, sit back in your Baseball Tonight chair and try not to be obvious when you are sweating needing your next fix. Honestly, I didn't care if they had a drink after a game or a start or whatever, but they obviously abused it and if this is one of Bobby's rules, so be it.

I also love Bobby Valentine's response;
"Any comments on that? You need a comment? My opinion, if it was PR move you mean?" said Valentine. "I don't know. How was it PR? Well, you know, I don't really have a comment on that. It means like 20 teams are looking for PR and that's why they're making good decisions. I don't have a comment on that."

"Remember, you're getting paid over there for saying stuff. You get paid over here for doing stuff," said Valentine. "I've done both."

Good for you Bobby.

I'm Gonna Keep The Rants Going

I have to be honest, I didn't start to like LeBron this year, but I was starting not to hate him as much. It seemed as if he was starting to learn to not be such an asshole. But this All Star week he did a couple things to shoot him back up to hatred points and made an unlikely character jump up to being one of my favorite non Celtic players. I'll get to the 1st thing.

To start off, I think he made the All Star game, he single handedly made it at game. However, in Lebron-esk fashion he froze up at the end of the game and lost it. Who cares whatever, moving on.

When asked about the Dunk Contest (Which if they don't have stars in it next year, they should cancel it), LeBron said that their needs to be a million dollar prize.

You know what LeBron, fuck you! You are a millionaire and the All Star game and especially the dunk contest is meant for the people who made you a millionaire. You shouldn't do it because it's money driven, you should do it for the fans. It would be such a good event if say, LeBron, Blake Griffin, Russell Westbrook and say Carmelo was in it. I don't understand why David Stern doesn't drop the Hebrew Hammer on these guys and just force them to do, he's the Commissioner. Hell, if this was football Roger Goodell would force them and then fine James Harrison if they didn't go. Requesting a million dollar prize is almost as offensive when he blew the finals and said on twitter, "Don't worry, I'm still rich, at the end of the day you are all poor and miserable" (It was something like that).

The second thing is this picture;

I haven't been a Derrick Rose fan until I saw this on the All Star game. Look at how much he hates LeBron. He addressed the whole not dancing during the introduction and said, "I can dance," Rose said after Sunday night's All-Star Game. "But there's a time and place for that and I don't think it was right, then and there." aka LeBron and Dwight Howard are fruitcakes and I don't want to be associated with people who care more about potential who care more about branding themselves than actually winning.

LeBron is an ass and Derrick Rose jumped up pretty far in my book after this.

Queeratek Is Finally Gone

I know the Captain just wrote a post on this, but I can't let him steal my thunder on this because I have been waiting since 1997 for him to retire.

If you have been reading this blog, you can tell that I absolutely despise Jason Varitek. I have hated him my whole life, I hate the way he looks, I hate the way talks, I hate the way he carries himself, I hate the C on his jersey, I hate the way fans support him because "he tries hard", and I'm going to hate the way the Red Sox will retire this ass clowns jersey.

When people say Jason Varitek they will follow it up by saying he has 2 Championship rings and he was a great game caller. That's absolute bullshit, he will get credit for being the "Captain" and "leading" these teams. We saw how great he was a leader last year when he "led" the Red Sox to the greatest collapse in baseball history.

The Red Sox are a much better team that he is no longer holding the franchise hostage with him inexplicably being a fan favorite. I'll tell you a quick story, I was sitting where people walk in and out of the Celtics game one time, and when he was walking by I yelled at him, "Jason! I don't care for you!" You should have seen his stupid face, confused reaction. It was almost worth him being a shitty Red Sox player for so long, so I could tell him how much I didn't like him.

Fuck, he didn't bat over .260 for the past 6 years and his highest batting average in those years was when he batted .255. He was automatic out when he was starting, it was disgusting. I lost my faith in humanity when he was voted to the all star game in 2008 where he batted .220.

Varitek will go down as one of my most hated Red Sox players of all time, that list includes:

1. Jason Varitek
2. Trot Nixon
3. Brian Daubach
4. Mike Lansing
5. Pete Schourek

So bye Captain Queeratek, I hope you have an awful life.

Varitek to Retire

Thank God.

I'm surprised that he waited until now to make this decision. Then again, this is the guy that accepted a gaudy "C" on his jersey when named a Team Captain. This is the same guy who continued to wear that "C" even as he became a part-time player.

Overall, I've liked Jason Varitek's tenure with the Sox. He was an important part to the team's two World Series wins. And he was very good at getting the best out of a pitching staff.

But he was also one of the most overrated, overhyped athletes in Boston. And that's saying something. He was good. Not great. At his best he was very good and he had occasional great moments. 7 RBI in the 2004 ALCS. Three All-Star Games. A Gold Glove. A Silver Slugger.

If the Red Sox had a different catcher in 2004 and 2007, I don't think they win those World Series. Even if they plugged in a "better" catcher.

But great? Sorry. He got too much credit for pitcher's successes, never any blame for their struggles. He got too much credit for being a good Captain, never any blame when teams have disintegrated.

The guy was important to this team. That was the past, though. I'm very glad he's retiring because his prime was 2004 and 2005.

I can't say I'll miss him. He had plenty of time here, and he got plenty of spotlight time too. But if he retired in 2004, I would have missed him then.

Captain's Thoughts: Bruins Trades

You might not recognize the names, except for one, maybe two. The Bruins acquired left wing Brian Rolston and defenseman Mike Mottau from the Islanders.

They also sent Steve Kampfer to Minnesota for defenseman Greg Zanon.

Rolston played with the Bruins back in the early 2000s. He scored a career high 31 in 2001-02. He's got 4 goals and 5 assists in 49 games with the Islanders this year, so I don't know how much he has left in the tank. He adds depth to the bottom end of the depth chart.

Mottau won the Hobey Baker Award (college hockey's Heisman) his senior year at Boston College in 2000. Greg Zanon is similar to Mottau. Neither of these guys will contribute much on offense. Which I'm happy about. The Bruins need solid defensemen that don't make mistakes. These guys are the anti-Tomas Kaberles.

And with Boychuk down, the Bruins needed depth at the blue-line.

These aren't exciting moves. These moves don't make the Bruins much stronger. They address potential weaknesses. I'll take Rolston over Josh Hennessy. I'll take Zanon or Mottau over Kampfer. And maybe even over Corvo.

Breaking News: Bruins Make Deadline Trades

The Bruins reportedly added three players on the day of the NHL trade deadline, swinging a deal with the Islanders for former Bruin Brian Rolston and defenseman Mike Mottau, as well as acquiring defenseman Greg Zanon from Minnesota. According to TSN, the Bruins sent AHL defenseman Marc Cantin and forward Yannick Riendeau to the Islanders in exchange for Rolston and Mottau. Defenseman Steve Kampfer was traded to the Wild for Zanon.

Not the most exciting moves. I like Rolston back in the day when he came over in the Ray Bourque trade, but I dont think he has much left in the tank. Zanon I am told is a hell of a shot blocker according to Berry Melrose, and Mottau just gives them depth. Not going to lie I was expecting a bit more from the Bruins in terms of finding some offense, unless Rolston gets fired up finally playing for a Cup contender.

Why Not?

Manny Ramirez Meet Brett Anderson

Yup, that's Manny. I mean why would he waste his time learning who guys on his team are? I am actually pretty pissed this guy is even back in the MLB. He has twice failed a PED test, he throws down old men, he beats his wife, but I guess you find "God" and everything is fine. Funny how that always seems to happen right after you beat the shit out of your wife.

I hope Manny fails another test and is deported, which is sad, because he was one of my favorite players.

Patriots To Tag Welker

Not really shocking news, but the Patriots around about to put their franchise on Wes Welker. This doesn't mean that they can't workout a long term deal, but it will prevent any other teams from making him offers. The tag will cost the Patriots a little over $9 million, which really isn't that bad. Welker is starting to get a little older, so it will be interesting what the Patriots would be comfortable giving him in terms of a long term deal. Welker has been one of the best WRs in the NFL since he joined the Patriots, but every good thing eventually comes to an end. My thinking is that he has 2 more seasons playing at an elite level.

Should Kyle Turris Have Been Suspended?

No.

His hit on Joe Corvo was potentially dangerous. But that's because it was poorly delivered. It was such an awkward check at an awkward angle in an awkward situation.

It wasn't an intentional targeting of the head. His skates left the ice but he hardly launched himself at Corvo. And he hit Corvo with his shoulder, not an elbow.

It wasn't reckless either. Reckless means that somebody is hitting other players carelessly. Whereas Turris seemed to hit Corvo clumsily.

The NHL considers past history when making these rulings. Turris' history shows that he's not normally a hitter at all. He's 19th on the Senators with 16 hits this season. That's 3 more than Zach Hamill, 5 fewer than Tyler Seguin, and 10 fewer than Jordan Caron.

I understand Jack Edwards' frustration in the moment, but the NHL was correct in not suspending Kyle Turris.

Banning Beer In The Red Sox Clubhouse

Bobby Valentine instated a new rule for the Red Sox clubhouse this season: No beer in the clubhouse or on the last leg of charter flights. It’s a rule that Valentine has always had as a manager (except his days in Texas).

“I’m comfortable with it that way,” he said.

When asked how that was receiver, Valentine joked, “you mean like standing ovation or booing?”

I'm fine with it, do I think that this a little over the top? Yes, But after last year and with the players acting like children, they should be approached like children this year. So I'm in big favor of Bobby V laying down the law and probably pissing off your Becketts, Youkilis' and Lester's.

Last year Beckett, Lester, Lackey caused the Red Sox to lose and for them to be out of the playoffs. And although Lackey, may never get the opportunity to prove himself, there are big years coming for Josh and Jon.

I don't know about Beckett because I could see him clashing with Bobby V, but I'm expecting Lester to bounce back and win the public back, because I don't see him as a diva. The Red Sox are going to have to battle with NY, Tampa and Toronto, so they can't afford any of last years bullshit.

I Really Want These Rondo For Poopface Rumors To Go Away

I get why these rumors are being tossed around, the Lakers desperately need a PG and the Celtics desperately need a center. But I will be damned if I have to watch Poopface Gasol run up and down the court in Green and me have to celebrate when he gets a basket. I will not be able to get over the fact they traded my favorite player in basketball for the softest big man in the game.

Also, seeing Rajon in a Lakers jersey would hurt on so many levels. If we were to trade these players we would have a rotation of Bradley, Ray, Pierce, KG and Gasol which isn't bad, however, does this roster give you the confidence they can make any noise and be a title contender? It's still the same problem, they are old and wont be able to keep up with Miami and Chicago. Also, if we gave up Rondo, we would have to give up Brandon Bass as well.

I really hope Danny doesn't do anything like this and I hope that he lets all these contracts expire and do some work in the offseason. I just feel we could get some good players in this draft and sign some major guys. But who knows with Danny.

Things I Learned From The All Star Weekend

The skills competition and 3 point competition are pretty cool. Tony Parker won the skills and Kevin Love won the 3 point competition.

The dunk competition is what I really have a problem with. Having the competition be Chase Budinger, Jeremy Evans (winner), Paul George and Derrick Williams is absurd. I know that we don't want to give a million dollars to these douche bags, but if that's what it would take to get LeBron, Blake, Durant and whoever to compete, thats what they need to do. The Dunk contest has lost it's luster and even though there are some diamond in the roughs, it's not what people want to see. The dunk contest used to be my favorite competition, now it's one of the bottom ones for me.

As for the game itself, I love it. It's exactly what you should expect out of a game, high scoring, awesome transition baskets, followed by vicious dunks. The end of this game was tight, it was a one point game and of course LeBron turned the ball over, and then opted to inbound the ball with a second left. LeBron brought the East back to the brink of winning the game, but then opted to throw the ball away.

The Celtics didn't do much in Paul Pierce and Rondo, Rondo did have 8 assists, but whatever. Pierce did heckle Kobe at the end of the game, adding more fuel to that fire.

Although my favorite All Star even in all sports is the Home Run Derby, NBA has the best actual game.

Bruins 5, Senators 3

Even though the Bruins lost Friday night, it wasn't a bad performance. Few mistakes. Give credit to Ryan Miller for being a great goalie. And maybe if Thomas were in net for the shooutout, the Bruins take home 2 points instead of 1. Rask was very good during the game, but Thomas is just slightly better.

Beating Ottawa was more important. The Senators are the only team currently within striking distance of the division leading Bruins.

The B's look to be back in business. After it seemed like everyone was slumping, Marchand has gotten hot. Bergeron scored twice Saturday night, and Chara ended a goalless drought in Buffalo.

The fact that the Ottawa game got as close as 4-3 was unfortunate. The Bruins were the superior team for all of the game until they forgot to cover Daniel Alfredsson. He, Jason Spezza, and Erik Karlsson took advantage of bad Bruins defending. The B's collapsed too low in their own zone, giving Spezza and Alfredsson free reign to move the puck around the ice, get Thomas to commit to a shot from Spezza, then pass to Alfredsson and score.

But Bergeron's empty-netter sealed the deal. It was a smart play, as he shot from his own blue line. Either Seguin would receive the shot/pass, or the shot would go in the net, or Seguin would have a good chance to win the race to wave off the icing.

Things turned nasty in the 3rd period. There was Neil's big hit on Boychuk, which was a shattering check, but a clean check. Later Kyle Turris left his feet to hit Joe Corvo in the head. There was a boarding penalty, but the NHL has decided not to discipline Turris further. Boychuk might be out for a few games. Corvo is fine.

These teams meet Tuesday night in what should be an entertaining and physical game.

Bruins @ Sabres Preview

Last time these two teams played the Sabres blew the doors off of the Bruins 6-0. Boston looked great last time out beating the Blues in St. Louis, but once again we have to ask if this is the end of the slump. The Bruins haven't won two games in a row since mid-January. So, the question tonight is whether or not this trend will continue.

The Bruins are still playing without Horton and Peverley, that is going to hurt. The Bruins are deep, but you can't have two of you top wingers out, and not feel some kind of impact. We have seen this as the Bruins have been shutout many times over the last month. It was nice to see Marchand step up last game and score two goals. The Bruins are going to need guys like him (Lucic, Bergeron, Krejci, Seguin, ect) to step up if the Bruins are going to end this "slump" they are in.

I think the Bruins come out angry tonight. That 6-0 was the most goals the Bruins had let up all season, and the most lopsided loss since 2008. That won't happen again. I can't say the Bruins will return the favor, because I just don't see them blowing anyone out right now, but I do think they will win.

Bruins win 2-0

That's Kyle Busch saving his car from an accident on Saturday. He had a similar incident toward the end of the race. He saved it again. Then won the race. Like a boss.

P.K. Subban Doesn't Just Piss Off Bruins

According to a report on TSN, Subban was involved in a confrontation with teammate David Desharnais at Thursday's practice. The report indicates Subban dumped Desharnais to the ice, and Desharnais responded by cross checking and slashing Subban before teammates stepped in to prevent the situation from getting worse. This wouldn't be major news in and of itself, but this is the fourth reported confrontation Subban has had with a teammate this season.

This has led to there being a lot of rumors he could be run out of town. With the Bruins looking for another defenseman, this guy has to be on their radar. Listen, he is an asshole, but he is one of those guys you hate when he isn't on your team, but love when he is on your team. Basically, he is Marchand, but a defenseman.

Subban on the season is a +3 on the season, which isn't all that impressive until you think about how bad the Canadiens are this year. Montreal is in last place in the Eastern Conference.

I doubt the Canadiens would trade a 22 year old defenseman within their own division, especially the Bruins, but it's interesting to think about anyways.

Scary Start To The Red Sox Season

I was thinking last night about what the keys to the Red Sox season would be. Obviously they need their starters to be healthy, and someone to step up in the backend. They need the bullpen to handle all the changes that have come, and they need to figure out what they are going to do with their catcher/RF/SS spots in the bottom of their lineup. We have been over all that time and again though, so I was trying to think more about the team as a whole.

I think one of the keys is a fast start. Last season ended so bad that they really need to come out and start hot, so that fans (and themselves) will start to believe that last year is behind them. If not, this season could get ugly, really fast. If they come out of the gate losing you are going to hear more and more about trading your starting SS for nothing to save money. Your going to hear about not spending money on a back rotation pitcher, and so on and so forth.

This team does have a lot of talent. Not many teams have a top end of the rotation that has the "talent" of Beckett, Lester, Buchholz. Not a lot of teams have a top of a lineup that consists of guys like Ellsbury, Youk, Pedroia, Crawford, Gonzalez, Ortiz. Yet, if this team starts slow, the pressure in this town could get out of control, and you can already see the fanbase is out for blood. Hell, read Captain's post earlier today.

Ok, so we have come to the conclusion that they need to start fast. Here's the problem... The schedule is going to make that very, very hard to do.

That's the first 15 games right there. Pretty fucking rough if you ask me. No one wants to start the year having to go against Verlander, especially into a ballpark that is going to be going bonkers after signing Fielder. Then on to Toronto, which always seems to give the Red Sox trouble. They finally get home and they get the Rays and their crazy pitching staff, then Texas, then the Yankees. If the Red Sox get out of the beginning of the season going 7-8 or better I'd be damn impressed.

Why Not?

I think all of our viewers should go and do this?

Red Sox In On Jorge Soler

UPDATE:ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes reportsFriday morning that a Red Sox official has indicated the club is very much interested in Soler. The source seemed to think that the best course of action for the team that inks the 19-year-old outfielder would be to send him to A-ball. ESPN

Jorge Soler is going to be a better prospect than recently signed Yoenis Cespedes and has a serious impact bat with the tools behind him. If Soler were to be in the MLB draft he would have been a top 3 pick and would easily be the top Sox prospect in their farm.

With that being said, he's 19 , so he would need years to develop to his full potential and I have heard rumors that he would take around 30 million dollars to get. With this kid, I believe it's worth it.

I know the Sox have been disappointing this whole offseason, but this signing would be a great commitment towards the future.

Bill Simmons Is A Fucking Moron

Bob sent me this Bill Simmons article and thought it was funny because he's secretly anti Celtics and enjoys when people make fun of them, especially my favorite player Rajon Rondo.

Anyways, moving away from Bob and onto someone who knows even less than Bob about basketball, Bill Simmons. Bill Simmons stopped being funny years ago, and I haven't found anything he has done in 7 years funny or even informational. He is a dumbass that is living in LA and trying so hard to stay cool in Boston.

Anyways onto this article, I'll give you the ones that made me spit out my coffee;
Ordway: "Unfortunately, it's been slim pickings for Celtics fans ever since. You drafted poorly; you signed a slew of washed-up veterans; your biggest trade completely backfired; you haven't uncovered a single gem; and you've managed to piss off all the starters on your team by repeatedly throwing them into trade talks, then ADMITTING IT PUBLICLY while calling these players old. It's been quite a run. Let's bring out two of those lousy signings right now … ladies and gentlemen, Keyon Dooling and Chris Wilcox!"

Dooling: "Danny, you could have signed reliable bench players like Kurt Thomas, Reggie Evans, Shannon Brown, Earl Watson, Mike Dunleavy — "

Wilcox: "Or, you could have waited and held your free-agent exceptions for a chance at Kenyon Martin, J.R. Smith or maybe even Aaron Brooks

and later on
(Sam) Presti: "If you want to improve this year's team, turn your expiring contracts — KG, Ray, Chris, Keyon and Jermaine — into better players and don't worry about cap space. For instance, let's say you offered KG's expiring contract to Dallas for Shawn Marion and Lamar Odom — Cuban might jump at that because he's desperately trying to clear money for Dwight and Deron this summer. He needs to dump Marion's deal to do it. That's why you see him on Twitter pimping Marion to boost his trade value — it's comical. Turn KG into Odom and Marion and you're better right away — Marion is still one of the league's best defensive players. Plus, you'd save about $4 million in tax money."

Presti: "Anyway, offer them Rondo and Jermaine O'Neal's expiring for Gasol, a deal which saves them $24 million in tax money these next three years. I can't imagine them turning it down. You'd need a point guard, too, so offer Ray to the Clippers for Mo Williams and Eric Bledsoe. They desperately need a two-guard; they might be dumb enough to say yes. If they turn it down, settle on Mo and a future first for Ray, if only because it's always good to own two first-rounders from the league's most jinxed franchise. Mo's contract expires next year, and you can always re-sign Ray this summer."

Presti: "Look at your new team — Gasol, Brandon Bass, Marion, Pierce and Mo Williams as starters, with Odom, Wilcox, Pietrus and Bradley as your first four subs. If Gasol and Odom get going, that's a dangerous 6-seed in the East, right?"

He claims that Danny Ainge hasn't made a good move in 4 years and claims PJ Brown is the last good move he made. That's absolute nonsense, he glossed completely over the fact we heisted Brandon Bass for Glen Davis (who is having the worst year of his career)

Was I a little surprised he spent 3 mil on Chris Wilcox? Hell yea, I hate him, but I get the logic, we need a athletic, big man and he was the only one around. There was nobody else available, and I doubt we would have been happy if we saved the contract for mid season for a chance to get JR Smith, Kenyon Martin or Wilson Chandler.

So now he wants Gasol, Brandon Bass, Marion, Pierce and Mo Williams as starters, with Lamaw Odom being the 6th man, c'mon man? Have you seen Lamar Odom play? He may be having a worst year than Big Baby. With the Pierce/ Marion tandum out there, one of them would have to play the 2 guard, which they would be completely out of place. And Mo Williams mentioned in any situation to lead a team is never a good thing. This guy is a gunner that masks for a point guard, no thank you.

What people are lacking to think is that;
Simmons is a fruitcake
We are in the 5th year of a 3 year plan
A quarter from a 2nd title
Everyone passed on DeAndre Jordan, it ended up being a good pick up by the Clippers
We are old, and it's becoming evident. Although I still hold hope, I get it that there is a great chance we dont win a title this year.
